They're Baaaaack...

It's October and it's starting. The stores and restaurants are getting busy. There's more traffic. The first license plates to arrive are usually those farthest north, Wisconsn, Michigan, North Dakota, Idaho and Montana. As a salute to those who revive and boost our economy here in Florida, I made this ... (You Need Sound)

Tian Provencal (Zucchini, Squash, Tomato Bake)

Tian Provencal (Zucchini, Squash, Tomato Bake)

This recipe is an old French recipe, popular in the Provence region.  It is versatile in that it can be made using many combinations of fresh summer vegetables.  The quantities and servings are variable.

Below is how I often make the dish.

1 large finely sliced onion

1 yellow squash

1 zucchini

2,3 or 4 cloves finely sliced garlic

Olive oil

Herbs de Provence or dried basil, dash of oregano, tarragon etc

Salt and pepper

Grated parmesan cheese

Fresh bread crumbs

Butter or oil bottom and sides of baking dish. Layer onions and garlic evenly

Place slices of vegetables in long rows

Top with salt, pepper and dried herbs

Drizzle well with olive oil

Mix fresh bread crumbs with grated cheese and top vegetables

Lightly drizzle crumbs and cheese with more oil

Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until crumbs are browned

Fini

My son, daughter-in-law and their three children were here for the weekend. My daughter was here also. All that being said, my son, fondly referred to as "Gadget Boy" by his long suffering wife, is a Director of Technology for a fairly large multi-state company. He has a big salary and he sure knows how to spend it. He arrived with this in his hand. I have camera envy to the max and it's killing me. I am really tempted to get one. Convincing husband might be an issue. The camera takes photos really fast click click click and stitches them together. This is how the photographers for the realtor's are able to get such great photos of interior rooms.

So finally, here is my project room in toto, all except for the lumbar pillow which still hasn't arrived. But, you can see the finished chair in the photos.

The End is in Sight

The chair refinishing/painting/antiquing project is beginning to consume my life.  It's a more time consuming job than I anticipated.  I have to hold the sponge paint stick between my fingers at the knuckle joint.  That's how curled my fingers are these days.  Oh well, it's either do it that way or give up doing what gives me pleasure.  I'm unwilling to give up yet.  The fabric has not yet arrived so there's no big rush.  I also need to purchase black piping for the trim.

I am also waiting for this, but in a lumbar size, to arrive.  I saw it on Etsy as a throw pillow and asked the seller to custom make a 16" lumbar for the bed.  I love Etsy.

The room is ninety-five percent finished.  Remember, I tend to be a quasi-minimalist.  To me, less is more.  One of my friends asked why I didn't move the desk upstairs to the loft.  Why indeed?  I did.  The room is more spacious now and I get exercise every time I haul myself up that big staircase to do some office chore!

OK...here's what I've got so far.  It's so hard to take interior room photos.  I did my best.  The color really looks dark in the photos and it isn't.

Today's Project

For some reason I have one of our old dining room chairs.  We had ten chairs, two arm chairs and eight side chairs.  I think when we sold the set, I kept two side chairs for some reason.  When we moved here I only brought one chair.  I have no idea where the other chair went and neither does John.  Today I decided to paint and antique the chair for the newly decorated bedroom.

I began by using the leftover Parakeet primer.  It needed two coats.  Next has been one coat of a sample pot I had named Besalt.  It's a sort of charcoal color.  After everything cures over night, I'll paint a final coat of black matte tomorrow.  Then I'll sand places to make the antique look showing the green underneath.

That black and white blob underneath the chair above is Klingon Rico napping

And this is the fabric I ordered for the seat
